It is said that Microsoft is going to release the new version of Windows 8 Blue, but it appears to be coming with the same old dreadful Metro interface. Microsoft bring significant changes to Windows 8 operating system focused towards improving its user experience on mobile devices such as tablets to better compete with other mobile operating systems .

Thus a new touch user interface and shell based on Microsoft's "Metro" design language are introduced to Windows 8. Windows 8 OS features a new Start screen with a grid of dynamically updating tiles that represent applications. The Start screen replaces the "Start menu" of earlier Windows versions.

We cannot deny that Metro may be OK on a tablet or Smartphone because it brings great convenience to touch screen users. But for desktop users, it is really awful. That may be the biggest reason why Windows 8's acceptance on the desktop has fallen even behind Vista's lousy numbers.

Could Microsoft just bring back the Start button and make the Windows 8 desktop the default interface instead of Metro? People like my parents are totally confused facing a screen with no trace of the decades old windows, icon, menu, and pointer (WIMP) interface metaphor for a guide.

If Microsoft really wants to save Windows 8 with Blue, they're going to need to do more than update its core apps and put some WIMP-style lipstick on the Metro pig.
