3. Unlock a Word Document for Editing by Changing File Extension

You can change the extension of your document to zip and then delete a file to remove password protection.

• Right-click on your Word file, select Rename, and change the extension to .zip.

  

• Open the ZIP file, locate the Word folder, and delete the settings.xml file.

  

Your document no longer has password protection on it.
