  • 1. Open Local Users and Groups, and click on the Users folder in the left pane to open it.

  • 3. Do the following steps depending on if you would like to enable or disable the user account in Windows 7.
    A. To Enable and Unlock a Windows 7 User Account
    a. In the General tab, uncheck the Account is disabled box, click on OK.

  • 4. When finishing the steps above, close the Local Users and Groups window.

Way 2: Unlock or Lock a User Account in Windows 7 Command Prompt

This way will use the net user command to unlock or lock a user account or domain account in Windows 7.

  • 1. Open an elevated command prompt in Windows 7.
  • 2. Do the following steps depending on if you would like to enable or disable the user account in Windows 7.
    A. To Unlock a Local or Domain User Account in Windows 7
    a. In the Command Prompt, type either command below for the user account (ex: Example Account) that you want to enable, and press Enter.
    Note: Substitute User Name in the command below with the user name (ex: Example Account) of the user account.
    Enable local account: Net user "User Name" / active:no
    Enable domain account: Net user "User Name" / active:no / domain

    B. To Lock a Local or Domain User Account in Windows 7
    a. In the Command Prompt, type either command below for the user account (ex: Example Account) that you want to disable, and press Enter.
    Note: Substitute User Name in the command below with the user name (ex: Example Account) of the user account.
    Enable local account: Net user "User Name" / active:yes
    Enable domain account: Net user "User Name" / active:yes / domain

  • 3. When finishing the steps, close the elevated command prompt.
