How to Restore Deleted Files on OneDrive in Windows 8.1

For OneDrive data, you can delete specific files on it, or you can delete entire folders and all the files in them. As we know, OneDrive is not the same as hard drive in Windows 8.1. If you delete files stored in hard drive, you can easily recover them in Recycle Bin or apply for other recovery method. But for OneDrive, it's not the same way for you to restore deleted files or folders in Windows 8.1. Thus, where can Windows 8.1 users recover deleted files on OneDrive?

First let's find where you can reach the deleted files in OneDrive.

By default, OneDrive stores your deleted files in a Recycle bin for at least 3 days and a maximum of 30 days. In most cases, it will store them for 30 days. If your Recycle bin gets large enough to exceed 10% of your total OneDrive storage, the duration for which they will be kept is reduced.

Note that the Recycle bin is designed to store both the files you deleted on any of your synchronized devices and the files that others have deleted while you were working collaboratively on those files.

How to Recover Deleted Files and Folder on OneDrive?

• 1. Go to the OneDrive website. Log in with your Microsoft account and the contents of your OneDrive is shown.
  
  
• 2. In the column on the left, click or tap the Recycle bin link.
  
  
• 3. Here you can see all the files that were deleted before. For each file you are shown its name, original location, when it was deleted and its size. Then, you can have two options:
  
  "Restore all items" - when you press this, it automatically restores all the deleted items from the Recycle bin to their original location in OneDrive.
  
  "Empty recycle bin" - it empties the Recycle bin and all the files are no longer available and they cannot be recovered.
  
  
• 4. Select the deleted files or folder you want to recover, click or tap Restore in the toolbar on the top.
  
  
• 5. Finally, OneDrive informs you that it has restored the selected items.
  
  
• 6. Here, you can check the restored files at their original location.
